JOB TITLE:  SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCESS COORDINATOR

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Services

JOB GOAL:   To be responsible for supervision of the special education process from screening through identification, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development, placement and provision of services to ensure appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities and district compliance with state and federal requirements for implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) in accordance with district policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works closely with Director of Special Services/SPED on oversight of all SPED processes
  2. Responsible for providing on-going training to teachers and Paraeducators
  3. Attends a variety of SPED meetings, serving as the LEA representative 
  4. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education
  5. Provides leadership in implementing new programs and ensuring fidelity of existing ones
  6. Keeps SPED Director informed of staff-related and/or building level concerns
  7. Monitors the special education process from pre-referral through eligibility, and beyond
  8. Assists with Special Education programming and distribution of Paraeducators
  9. Assists in collection of Core Data information for submission to DESE.
  10. Monitors district and building level incidence rates, caseloads, and staffing
  11. Completes reviews of SPED documents, and monitors compliance in all SPED processes
  12. Ensures a smooth transition for students transferring to the district with an existing IEP
  13. Serves as the SpedTrack software primary point of contact/liaison 
  14. Oversee the Manifestation Determination process, track student discipline data, and coordinate IEP services for suspended students
  15. Coordinate homebound instruction for students on long-term medical leaves
  16. Coordinate with outside placement schools and attend associated IEP meetings
  17. Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Service

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Valid MO Teaching Certificate in Special Education required
    • Minimum of 5 successful years of SPED teaching experience required
    • Master’s Degree in Administration, Special Education, or related field required
    • Previous experience as a School Psychologist or Process Coordinator preferred
    • Knowledge of State Standards, State and Federal regulations, Board of Education policies, and effective instructional practices for students with special needs

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
